Ingredients
- 1 pound of lean ground beef
- 15 ounces of tomato sauce
- 1 can (15 ounces) of kidney beans, drained
- 1 can (15 ounces) of chili beans, with the liquid
- 2 tablespoons of chili powder, or as needed
- salt and fresh black pepper, to your taste
Instructions
- Put a big pan on medium-high heat. Cook the ground beef in the pan, mixing it often, until it’s brown and crumbly, about 5 to 7 minutes.
- Add the kidney beans, chili beans, and tomato sauce. Let it boil and then mix in the chili powder. Turn the heat down to let it simmer, and keep stirring it now and then until it gets thicker, about 15 minutes. Add salt and pepper to taste.
Editor’s Note:
Canned beans and tomato sauce have different amounts of salt, and the dish will taste saltier as it cooks longer. Taste the chili after it’s done to add just the right amount of salt.
